The RPG IV Programming Boot Camp is Back for Summer/Fall of 2019!!

August 12 - October 4, 2019

Due to the great success of our prior RPG IV Programming Boot Camps, we have decided to bring it back.


The RPG IV Programming Boot Camp is a Four Week program of Live Hands-On Online training workshops designed to teach the student the skills required to be, at a minimum, an Entry Level RPG IV Programmer.


Students will design, code, test and debug dozens of Control Language and RPG IV programs over the course of the entire Bootcamp. The Four Weeks include the courses Listed Below, for a total of 20 full class days.


Students may attend ANY or ALL of the classes that comprise the BootCamp. You do not have to register for all FOUR classes. If only ONE or TWO classes are needed, BootCamp discounts still apply.

Concepts and Facilities Workshop

This LIVE 5-Day Hands-On Lab-Style class provides an introduction to the IBM i (iSeries, AS/400) for Programmers and other technical staff that need to understand the technical capabilities of the IBM i.

The class focuses on the programming concepts and facilities, programming development tools, and DB/2 Database concepts and tools. The class teaches the use of the IBM WDS Toolset including PDM, SEU and SDA. Several programs will be written, tested and dubugged during this class. A breif overview of the IBM Rational Development Toolset(RDi) is also provided.

This class serves to fill the prerequisites for our Programming Workshops in RPG IV, COBOL/400 and Control Language.

Expanded Control Language Programming Workshop

The LIVE 5-Day Hands-On Lab-Style Workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to the IBM i (iSeries, AS/400) Control Language, and focuses on writing programs using Control Language. Students will write, test and Debug numerous Control Language Programs of increasing complexity. The class is current with all of the modern Control Language Enhancements.


Each Student receives the Textbook 'Control Language Programming for IBM i', Co-Author: Dan Riehl, which is the class instructor.

Introduction to ILE RPG IV Programming Workshop

This LIVE 5-Day Hands-On Lab-Style Workshop provides an introduction to RPG IV programming on the IBM i (iSeries and AS/400). This course covers both Fixed format and /FREE format C Specs, with the current language enhancements.


An overview is presented of the 'totally free format' specification types in the most recent version of ILE RPG IV, but that is not the focus.


The class focuses on the student's ability to read and maintain existing RPG programs, and to create new programs using modern language capabilities. Many RPG legacy capabilities are reviewed, to assist the student in reading, maintaining and enhancing existing programs.


During the workshop, students will write, test and debug dozens of RPG IV programs, starting with simple assignments and progressing through complex programming tasks.


No previous knowledge of RPG is required or assumed.

Intermediate ILE RPG IV

            Interactive Programming Workshop

This LIVE 5-Day Hands-On Lab-Style Workshop focuses on the technology and programming needed to write and maintain interactive display screen programs using ILE RPG IV. Students will write, test and debug numerous interactive RPG IV programs of increasing complexity.

Advanced topics like Subfiles, Windows and Advanced Message Handling are presented in this workshop. This class is intended for those with a basic knowledge of RPG IV that need the knowledge and experience of writing and maintaining interactive RPG IV programs.

Fixed format and /free format C Specifications are taught in this class with the most current language enhancements. Students choose to use fixed or /free format code, depending on presonal preference.


Throughout the Workshop, "Legacy" RPG coding methods are examined to assist the student in their ability to maintain existing/older RPG programs. In addition, newer /free format "everything" is discussed and examples are presented.
